Itinerary - Day by day summary

Day 01 : Librevile

Accommodation :

Welcome to Gabon! Upon arrival at the Libreville International Airport, you will meet your main guide. After greetings, you will be transfered at your hotel,Tropicana Hotel which is a pretty nice and famous place alongside Libreville beaches, then you are free to chill a little bit.

Day 02 : Librevile

On day 2, we start with the breakfast at 7am then at 8am, we go on hikes in the forest with local guides to identify and learn about local plant. This is going to be your first contact with the Gabonese tropical forest.We will walk 6 hours (include the way back) through the jungle to reach the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a really famous tour just because you will learn a lot about the local uses of many tropical plants and trees in the traditional medicine and cuisine.  
We will have a picnic lunch on the Atlantic Ocean beach then after get back to the hotel, you’ll have a short rest before going for city sightseeing.
At 3pm, we will spend a final couple of hours exploring the city before transferring to the train station and leave to Lopé National Park at 6pm.
NB: The train is at night so we will have our dinner in the restaurant inside the train then sleep in until we arrive in Lopé at 2am.

Day 03 : Lopé National Park

After arriving in Lopé National Park at 2am, you will be transferred at Lopé Hotel then you will have time to sleep a little bit then from 7am to 8am is the breakfast.
Then we will go for Safari on 4 by 4 car, and have a lunch at middle day. In the afternoon, we go climbing Brazza Mountain and watch arts carving. Later at night we have to take the train from Lopé to Franceville.

Day 04 : Franceville (Poubara Waterfalls and Bridge)

We start with the breakfast at 9am then at 10am, we leave to Poubara jungle where you  will admire the traditional engineering through a bridge construction that you have to cross to reach the waterfalls and the rapids.
The Poubara Bridge is an impressive suspended bridge first constructed in 1915  and made of liana vines by hand by members of the local tribe.  We will go over the bridge then hiked on a trail through the jungle to the waterfalls and rapids nearby.  
At 4pm,  we spend a final couple of hours exploring the city of Franceville, we will visit “Potos” the main local market and the Museum of Arts and Traditions and some interesting places and building.
At 7pm, we have the dinner in a typical African style restaurant nearby M’passa river with local dishes in menu.

Day 05 : Batéké Plateaux National Park (White and Red Canyons)

Batéké Plateaux National Park is located between forest and savannah in the southeastern Gabon. It was added onto the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on October 20, 2005, due to its purported universal cultural and natural significance.
We will spend the whole days exploring the park. The wildlife here is rich and includes the only young male lion captured on camera traps in 2015, chimpanzee, mandrill, leopard, hyena, elephant, giant pangolin, western lowland gorilla and numerous antelope species, as well as a huge number of bird species.
After the breakfast at 8am, we will drive through a beautiful landscape from Franceville to Batéké Plateaux National Park and on wards to Leconi Red Canyon. The journey is going to be fascinating, with many small villages located along the way. And there are rivers to cross, gallery forests, marshy areas, savannahs and rainforests to pass through until reaching the access point of the Batéké Plateaux National Park.
A motorised pirogue will then head us upstream for three hours to our main camp in the savanna and pass through the amazing white canyon named "Canyon Mohamed VI" by the king of Moroco himself after visiting this amazing place in 2015. This guided boat safari along the M’Passa river is one of the best ways to view forest animals such as the forest elephant, forest buffalo, western lowland gorillas, monkeys , sitatunga and the reclusive Grimm’s Duiker, locally known as the Ntsa. During these trips, you will often see some of the species of birds that are found in Batéké Plateaux National Park.
Upon arrival at our main savanna camp. Take a moment to appreciate the breathtaking savanna that surrounds the camp. Then check-in and we have lunch.
After lunch at 2pm, you will be embarked on a walk through the Batéké’s grasslands and gallery forest surrounding with our local guide pointing out plants, animals or insects of interest.
At 6.30pm, we meet around the fire before enjoying a delicious local meal.

Day 06 : Franceville

After the breakfast at 8am. we will leave from Batéké Plateaux National Park to Lambaréné via Franceville. From our savannah main camp, we go down stream M’Passa river on a dug out canoe
Up on arrival in Franceville, we will have a lunch at 2pm, then we will spend a final couple of hours exploring the city before transferring to the train station and leave to Lambaréné at 5pm.Then at 8pm, we will have our dinner in the restaurant inside the train.

Day 07 : Lambaréné

An island in the Ogooué River, Lambarene is known for its lakes, with several endemic birds and fish species, as well as the Schweitzer Hospital, established in the early 20th century and a centre for research into malaria. For a sense of the history of this town, we spend the night in the Albert Schweitzer Guest House.
After the breakfast at 8 am, we will go for 4 hours on canoe rolls from Lambaréné on the Ogooué river to the beautiful Lake Evaro.  Which is a peninsula of one hectare in the heart of the forest. This place will offer you a botanical show through its forest, its curtains of lianas, the small houses of the small villages myènè, which punctuate your ride. So follow your journey and let yourself emerge-vigil by Lake Onangué which is close to those of Ezanga and Oguemoué. In the distance, you will see fishing huts on stilts, lakes scattered with wooded islands and sandbanks. We never tire of admiring these landscapes. Go around the lake Steamed from the southwest, we arrive in a vast savannah area. You can hike if you are not too tired.
For lunch, we will make a stop in one the village on the way. Then you can enjoy some special dishes from the locals.
On your way back to the Ambila River you will find the Ngomo Protestant Mission. It was founded a century ago and abandoned by missionaries moment of independence. This mission includes a set of five one-storey buildings, built of stone, bearing the names of the continents. Some have been rehabilitated by Peace Volunteers. However, the beautiful pink brick church is collapsing more and more.
Back to Lambaréné at 2pm, we go for a visit of Albert Schweitzer museum and hospital following by a city tour.
At 7pm for dinner we will go for the really famous street food in Lambaréné, it’s a barbecue of carp fish with vegetable and bananas or patotoes.

Day 08 : Lambaréné

After the breakfast at 8 am, we will go for 2 hours on canoe rolls up stream of Ogooué river in search of the iconic wildlife that lives there.
At 11 am, we will leave from Lambaréné to Pointe Denis by land. We will spend 3.30 hours driving on the national road N°1 watching the amazing people and villages surrounding the road. We will have a lunch in a restaurant on the raod. Then we make a short stop in Libreville before getting a boat to Pointe Denis.
In Pointe Denis at night, you will have a cooking class then after the dinner we set up a campfire while waiting for the good time for turtle patrol from 11pm to 5am.
Gabon is home to one of the largest leatherback populations in the world. In the turtle season, from October to February, you can venture out at night with an eco-guide to look for nesting marine turtles. In total, four species of marine turtles can be found nesting on Gabon’s beaches. The leatherback and the olive ridley nest here regularly but the green turtle and the hawksbill turtle only nest here on rare occasions.

Day 09 : Pointe Denis - Pongara National Park

After the breakfast at 8 am, we will spend a final couple of hours exploring the majestic mangroves of Pongara National Park. You can admire the mangroves with stilt roots, these mangroves teem with life. The tangle of roots, which stabilizes the soil and protects it from storms and erosion, provides shelter to millions of fish, frogs, crabs,
and mudskippers: a curious little fish can move out of the water as a frog hunt for insects. The beaches Pongara, too, are very popular with coastal wildlife. sometimes you can see the traces of hippos and crocodiles between the lagoons and the sea.

At 6pm, you will have a cooking class then after the dinner we set up a campfire while waiting for the good time for turtle patrol.

Day 10 : Libreville

We will spend a final couple of hours exploring the mangroves of Pongara National Park and enjoy the estuary breezes and relaxing on the sand beach before transferring to the airport for your flight back home.
